While Auditory Processing Disorder is not curable, it is treatable. That means that participating in intensive auditory training can significantly improve your child’s ability to process auditory information, often bringing them up to peer-level functioning.

Capable Hearing Solutions offers one-on-one training with a qualified audiologist to strengthen auditory processing skills through practice and learn effective ways to compensate for their deficits and build on other strengths.

Central Auditory
Processing Disorder

Individuals with Central Auditory Processing Disorder (also called Auditory Processing Disorder) have normal hearing thresholds (abilities). Still, mechanisms in the pathway from the ear to the part of the brain that processes sound are impaired.

Auditory Processing includes mechanisms that preserve, refine, analyse, modify, and interpret information from auditory information. When there is a breakdown in one or more mechanisms along this pathway, the result is a central auditory processing disorder.

These mechanisms underlie the following skills: Decoding, Auditory discrimination, Binaural Processing, Temporal Processing, Spatial Processing, Listening to noise, Auditory Memory, Organisation, and Integration.

My son (2 years) was not communicating and did not stop screaming. We came down from Karratha for an Autism Assessment and on the last day of testing (and the last day of our stay) the speech therapist asked for a hearing test to rule out hearing loss before giving the formal autism diagnosis.
